"Integrating"

by Gay Allen

Don’t bother me! I’m integrating!!
You telephone with salesmen of awning
You people needy of the world dawning
Azaleas wait for your water
Bills I know that you ought’a be paid
I shall wait my turn to address you

Don’t placate me! I’m self-defining!!
You kitten requesting strokes
You laughter sucking for jokes
Letters stay in your place
I shall have definition

Don’t tell me to be patient! I’m agitating!!
You nannies of religion
You protractors of opinion
Be silent with your noise
I’ll know-not your little boys
I believe I can make connections

Don’t elevate me! I’m regulating!!
You masters of enchantment
You sorcerers of enlightenment
Know that I mean to be heard
I may not have the last word
But I will discover me

Don’t feed on me! I’m nurturing!!
You bleeders of realized psyche
You wardens of the free
I shan’t unknow my vision
This is my own cataclysm
Yes you may get beside me
